The dark side of crowdfinding

“Is anarchism possible? The failure of attempts to attain freedom does not mean the cause is lost”, affirmed the German anarchist Johann Most. Today we witness the latest try to finish with governments and politicians carried by a supposed anarchist.

'Assassination Market' is a website accessible through Tor network that encourages crowdfunding in bitcoins  to promote murder of the politicians suggested by its users. Thus, its creator is intended to destroy “all governments, everywhere".

After those news, any security issue that we can tell you will seem very little. For instance, a flaw in Microsoft’s Silverlight 5 that could affect 40 million Netflix subscribers. Or the finding of a security breach at the online dating site Cupid Media that exposed the personal information of 42 million users.

In those cases, users cannot do much more to update their software in order to keep themselves away from risk. Nevertheless, there is large map of threats in the Internet that users can curb taking a few simple security measures, as related on the video that accompanies this article.

User’s lack of caution has made some virus to become lethal weapons throughout the years. Do you remember the ILOVEYOU one in 2000? That is one of the five most catastrophic virus ever along with Mydoom, Sobig.F, Code Red and Slammer.

However, citizens' concerns about computer security are growing increasingly, as well as in the European Union which presented the INSEC project to boost SMEs specialized in defense and security taking a series of measures with a budget of 1.2 million euros.
