Security issues come by limo

“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down". Those are words said by American TV presenter, Oprah Winfrey. What about if the limo is spotless but suddenly your card is out of credit and you can not pay for the service?

That is more likely than it seems at first. In fact, credit card data from 850,000 VIP customers of such services have been compromised after systems have been hacked. It’s good haul if you take into account that one quarter were high- or no-limit American Express accounts.

Nevertheless there are hackers more aimed by the desire of protest than by money as proved by some Indonesian hackers who have attacked hundreds of Australian websites as a protest by the recent news saying that Australia has surveilled that country in latest years.

Sometimes, we make things very easy for cybercriminals. For instance, it has been released a long list of vulnerabilities on popular website discovered by security researcher Mohamed Osman Saeed. We can find Oracle, HP or Symantec’s websites among them.

The security problem often does not come from any website, but lies directly on our devices’ operating system. For instance, this applies to Android which has brought an exploit 'Master Key' vulnerability since its version 1.6. Now the security expert Jay Freeman found another one in version 4.4. However, this type of information contrasts with Google’s statement that only 0.001% of apps in its platform are able to penetrate the layers of security, which is widely questioned by Rik Ferguson, director of security research and communication at Trend Micro Europe.

To finish today, we recommend the security expert Mikko Hypponen talk about living in a surveillance state. In his words, "if you look back for the forecasts on surveillance by George Orwell, it turns out that Orwell was an optimist". You can not miss it!
